AI takeoff that opens the sheet, not a black box.
This page is for contractors and estimators who searched AI construction takeoff software and will not accept a black box. You already know a model can draft a materials list from a PDF. The question is whether you can see the work: which sheet a quantity came from, how strong the evidence is, and which rows still need a human. If the list cannot open a plan page, it is a vibe, not a takeoff you can defend.
Small GCs, owner-operators, and hired desks all land here from the same head term. The small-contractors page is kitchen-table volume. The estimators page is for people whose whole job is the bid. This page is the category argument: AI is a first pass with citations and confidence labels, not a magic number you rubber-stamp.
Solo at $200 is five successful takeoffs a month. Crew at $399 is fifteen and is the featured plan (Most Popular: Full Bid Loop). Shop at $699 is forty. RFQs are on every plan. Failed runs do not count.
The problem
The failure mode of AI takeoff is confidence without evidence. A list that cannot show the sheet, cannot label HIGH / MED / LOW, and cannot pin arithmetic that does not work will be rebuilt in a measuring tool anyway. That rebuild is the evening you were trying to buy back.
Count-only AI products stop when the list exists. You still have to price materials, split SELF from SUB, send RFQs, and assemble a proposal. Company suites want scheduling and payroll. You wanted to know whether the model showed its work.
Sunday-Off is written for the week that still ends at the kitchen table: still doing manual takeoffs on Sunday night after 30 days? Full refund.
What you get
Upload the PDF in the browser. Pick the trades you want counted — or leave all fourteen — and type the job ZIP. Click Run takeoff. Processing time varies with plan size and complexity. Close the tab. We email you when the first pass is ready.
Review is the job. High-confidence lines carry a page-level citation you can open (a chip like Plumbing · p.3). Confidence is HIGH, MED, or LOW and describes the evidence on that row, not a grade of your skill. Needs your eyes pins math-mismatch, no-evidence, and unconfirmed-item. You edit a line when the drawing says otherwise. Then you still source prices, mark SELF or SUB, send guest RFQs, and export. The AI step does not finish the bid.
See how it works on the walkthrough if you want the screens before you pay. Then run your first bid. If that first takeoff does not earn its keep, email feedback@takeoffspeed.io and the month is refunded. Sunday-Off after 30 days. Cancel anytime. Failed runs do not count. We do not run your company. We help you get the bid out.

What this supports
Browser-based, no desktop installation. PDF only, up to ten files; 150 MB upload, 200 MB server. The current page allowance is shown before upload. Large or dense sets may exceed processing limits.
The takeoff is grouped by fourteen scopes from Sitework through Finishes. High-confidence lines include a page-level citation. Click the chip; the sheet opens. Missing pages are demoted — you should not see a HIGH line with nowhere to look. A math-mismatch flag quotes the arithmetic, not a generic warning. LOW with no page shows as no-evidence.
Line-item editing is real: item, quantity, unit, spec. Mark a flag OK when you have checked it. Source researches live retail prices for selected lines as FOUND versus BUDGETARY. Guest RFQs on Solo, Crew, and Shop: quantities and units only, no login, your letterhead, TakeoffSpeed as a footer, up to fifteen subs per send, a required due date. Bid arithmetic is one integer-cents function. CSV and Word export live in the product.
Solo $200 / 5, Crew $399 / 15 (featured), Shop $699 / 40. RFQs are on every plan. Failed runs do not count.
Sample output
The ungated example at /sample-bid is the golden tenant fit-out the tests pin — not a second invented job. ZIP 34420. Area on the fixture is 1,988 SF. Estimated total $196,682.14 from computeBidTotals, additional contingency 10%, markup 15%, one plumbing quote applied in replace mode.
Read it as an evidence check. The public table shows item, qty, unit, spec, confidence, plan source, and citation. On this fixture the plan-page source column is empty — the page says so — while live takeoffs include available page references for review. That honesty is the point of this category page: we will not invent citations on a fixture that does not have them. CSV and Word stay disabled until you sign in.
What this does not do
No scheduling, no payroll, no change-order log, and no company-wide project-management suite. We do not run your company. We help you get the bid out.
The AI takeoff is a starting point, not a certified quantity survey. A human reviews every line. You remain the estimator on this page; the product does not sit in that chair. We do not claim every quantity is finished work. We do not publish an award-rate. FOUND is listed retail at run time, not your negotiated supplier quote.
Your first subscription: one free takeoff in a 14-day trial. A credit card is required. Cancel before trial end to avoid billing. Refunds on the first-takeoff guarantee and Sunday-Off are manual via feedback@takeoffspeed.io.
